Winter Refurbishment Work
This winter we have a number of projects underway.
In November we replaced the boiler. Although the old boiler was very reliable we decided that from and environmental point of view it was time to change. So although the new boiler is still an oil burning one it is far more efficient and we have more independent control of different zones.
We are currently refurbishing the Moles Chamber bathroom. The old bath will be replaced with a shower.
Re-Pointing
Last summer Keith went on a course to learn the techniques of repointing the stone work using traditional lime mortar.
But really it is Max who gets the credit for doing the majority of the work. Needless to say it is a very big task and can only be done in certain weather conditions. We are very pleased with the progress so far and hope to continue next summer.
Challacombe Memories Evening
An evening was held for residents past and present from Challacombe with several interested and interesting visitors who had traced their family tree to Challacombe.
We had a wonderful collection of photos, maps, relevant family histories and memories which everybody shared over a few drinks.
5kw Wind Turbine
Last spring Peter installed a Provon 5 kw Windyboy Turbine. We have been very pleased with the low visual impact of the turbine, in fact most people don't notice it at all. And we have discovered that it is a very useful wind vein.
After a few minor teething problems the turbine has been working well and makes a significant contribution to our electricity usage.
